Curriculum - English

EnglishThe Literacy Program at Mount Terry Primary School involves students participating in listening, talking, reading and writing activities from K-6. An important aspect of literacy instruction at Mount Terry PS is the ongoing assessment and tracking of student achievements. Through this assessment students are able to receive instruction matched to their ability level. Some students may be identified as requiring additional support. A wide range of support programs is available from kindergarten through to year six. One such early intervention program established at the school is reading recovery. This program is available for selected students in Year one and assists with development of reading and writing skills.

A linkages years 5-8 initiative has also been established with the local high school. The action research focus of this initiative further supports students literacy development as they make the transition from primary school through to high school.

In 2001 Mount Terry Primary School was successful in gaining a District Literacy Award for its Literacy Programs.
