Curriculum - Maths

MathsAn important aim of teaching mathematics at Mount Terry Primary School is to create favourable attitudes towards mathematics and stimulate students' interest in the subject. This can be helped by enabling students to solve real-life problems and by developing their ability to analyse situations. One of our targets is to develop the use of appropriate language to communicate ideas and experiences. Our resources are continually being improved, with boxes of base 10 materials available for every class to enhance the development of numeration skills and a range of games, measuring equipment and concrete materials to meet class needs.

Count Me In Too is an innovative numeracy project operating at Mount Terry and across New South Wales Department of Education and Training primary schools. It looks at how children develop increasingly sophisticated ways of solving arithmetical problems. The research-based learning framework used in the project provides direction for teaching and learning. Much of the new mathematics equipment bought for the school has been inspired by this project.
