Fantastic Fete

We had great weather, lots of fun, food and entertainment at our annual school fete today.

The children were smiling and happy underneath all that face paint.

Congratulations to the P&C, parent helpers and staff for their efforts in making the fete such an outstanding success.

Up close and spineless

Congratulations to our super photographer Daniel in Year 5.

Daniel's photograph "Crawly, but not so creepy!" has been chosen as a finalist in the primary category of the 2009 Up close & Spineless invertebrate photography competition.

This means that his photo will be included in the Australian Museum's online exhibition at http://australianmuseum.net.au/upclose and may be selected for display at the Australian Museum.

Congratulations Daniel.

Year 5 Maths Day

Last Friday year 5 took the challenge of The World of Maths.

There were many problems to solve. Some were tricky but that is why we like maths! If we had different answers in our group we had to work out who was correct.

Year 6 fun day

On the 1st of October year 6 held a fun day for the whole school.

The stalls that were the most popular were the fairy floss, donuts, cupcakes, sausage sizzle, hair spray, sponge throw, disco, baked bean hunt and biscuits.

The entire event was run by year 6 students (witha little help from their teachers).

The day was a great success raising lots of money. The whole school had lots of fun.

Library Boxes

The Shellharbour Men's Shed has kindly built some fantastic book boxes for our library and a new returns box in fire engine red!.

These will brighten up the library and making choosing a book to borrow even more fun.

Thank you to Neil, Peter and the rest of the men at the shed.

Dad's arvo

Dad's arvo 2009 was a huge success. It started at lunch and went all the way through sport and the afternoon.

A whole range of dads came from K-6. We had a special menu for the day. We had cheese and bacon pies, potato pies, sausage rolls and roast beef and mushroom pies.

Sam animation

One of our animations made with Sam Animation software has been added to the gallery on the Sam Animation website. This was created by a group of year 3 and 4 students.

Choir Performance

Yesterday year 5, 6 and 4 went to choir at Shellharbour Worker's Club and we sang 10 or more songs.

There were 5 schools that had to sing with us, but of course Mount Terry was the best. Mrs Pearce and Mrs Boyd put a lot of work into this and we thank them for helping us succeed and become great singers.

On the night we were all so excited and couldn't wait until it was our turn to sing. We felt the night was great but went really quickly.

Our favourite songs were "Pictures of you" and "Twisting by the pool", they were great songs and exciting.

When it was time to sing we were all so nervous and were smiling all the way though the night. We were so excited and at the same time felt like stars.

Book Week

We have been having a fabulous week celebrating book week.

On Monday Bruce Whatley and Rosie Smith visited our school and spoke to the students about how to write stories and draw and shared some of their favourite books.

I liked looking at the pictures of Smudge the dog - Aaron 3B

The best part was looking at all the original drawings for the books - Kacee 3B

It was interesting to see how to draw faces and cartoons - Ben 3B

I loved the Looking for crabs story - Candice 3B

I like how Bruce Whatley puts his family in his books - Courtney 3B

The Looking for crabs story was funny because the crab was hiding under the rock - Riley 3B

It was interesting because Bruce Whatley showed us how books are made - Teneal 4K

I thought it was fun to have an author read stories to us - Kaylee 5N

Our Book Fair is continuing throughout the week. As you can see it has been very popular.

Why did the chicken cross Jamberoo Road?

To get to our hen house of course�

On Saturday 22nd August a trusty band of parent, student and staff volunteers got together to erect the Mount Terry Hen House.

Mr Baxter had prepared the area, removing shrubs and levelling the cracker dust (thanks to CEMEX). It was then compacted, whilst other assembled the shed (thanks to the P&C). More folk were digging trenches around the edge and using the post-hole digger to prepare the ground for the post.

Once the posts were cemented in, the sheets of corrugated iron were dug into the ground and fixed to the bottom to prevent foxes digging into the yard. Mr Twist was busy paving the inside of the shed, while more helpers nailed wire around the structure�s sides and top.

After five hours work, we have a hen house which is very near completion.
